Epson Epson Artisan 700

Epson Stylus Photo 700 Misalignment

I have a Epson Stylus Photo 700 that worked great until..

about half way done the page, the printer seems to forget where the center of the page is and moves the 'center' over to the left about 4 inches. I have tried using the software to realign it, but it keeps happening. Its so bad that the printhead sounds like it bangs into the left side of the printer and gears grind and all sorts of inkjet goodness.

And now it awaits the scrapheap, unless anyone has suggestions?

i have an epson 1200 and the smame thing happens. i'm running Mac OS 10.2 and when i boot into 9 it doens't do it anymore, so i know it has to be a cimmunication error. i don't know what caused the error in the first place, my orinter has printed fine in 10.2 before.
let me knwo if you hear anything

Is the carriage rail sticky? This may be a lubrication problem where the printhead carriage is sticking on the travel rail. Does it look dull and dirty? Best bet would be to remove the rail, clean it and re-lube it with silicone oil or equivilant.

I cleaned the carriage rail and watched in amazement as my Photo 700 worked perfectly. Something it hadn't done for about six months.
Thank you very much
