Hp HP LaserJet 6L

HP 6L Scanner

My 6L printed like the laser was out of focus; i.e. the characters were not nicely formed. I took the scanning unit off the printer and cleaned the lenses and then reinstalled the unit. This improved the print quality but it is not perfect yet.

On the left and right side of the unit I noticed two black screws that seem to hold a spacer in place. These screws are also off-center from the center axis of the box. One is a little below and the other is a little above the axis. Does anyone know what the purpose is of these screws.
One of our contributors to the board took the lens off the laser diode itself. Not for the faint of heart since you have to carefully cut it off. He cleaned it inside and out and that fixed it, or so he says. If you do a search, you should find his post.
