hp D printers

Just a note to those users who have issues with any of the OFFICEJET D printers or perhaps others of the same design.

First installation. I am working with a D155XI a flat bed. After installing all 6 pieces of supplies the printer still balked. ERRORS galore. I simply removed the CMOS battery. Did NOT reinstall. Clock reverted to JAN 2000. Display instructed to ALIGN print heads. "ENTER" then alignment page was printed. Perfect. Removing battery SHOULD allow non HP inks, remans, and re filled. Take your chance.

I found I needed to install the printer twice. Once from the XP printers list under OFFICE JET, no model specific. Then again from the HP site or a trusted third party site, same file although the file name might vary. The first install connects the printer through USB or PARALLEL via a cable adapter. The printer port is NOT CENTRIX. The second install puts the DIRECTOR on the desktop. Printer can be used without the DIRECTOR but the scan option from the desktop will not be available. Another scan app would be used to access the D.

Removing the battery OVERRIDES the ink expiration and ink level read outs. Print quality will dictate when ink replacement happens.

There are TWO driver downloads on the HP site, basic and web. The web version contains certain extended features the average user might not use. The basic is just that. The DIRECTOR which accesses the 4 printer functions. For me the WEB package did NOT install, error, "PROCESS IS USED BY ANOTHER PROCESS, CANNOT INSTALL" or similar. No issues with the BASIC. Just be sure to install from the printers list FIRST. Will not install in reverse. This is the one and only time I ran into this from any HP printer. Hope this helps. If you are looking for a physical CD to avoid all of this I have yet to find one anywhere including HP.
