HP Officejet Pro K8600 printing greys as pinks!

Hi there

Wonder if you can help please:

My trusty and normally reliable inkjet HP Officejet Pro K8600 has just started printing greys as dark pink (via AutoCAD programme).

I've done the following but to no avail:

1. Numerous computer print head cleans
2. Replaced all four ink cartridges
3. Taken out print heads and cleaned face of nozzles and electrical terminals
4. Printed same drawing to another printer and that prints greys fine.

I have no printhead warning lights of any kind coming on.

Printing in greyscale only results in same outcome.

I'm guessing all that's left as a possible reason is a worn out printhead...?

If this is likely and I reluctantly have to replace a printhead, which one should I replace/replace first?

Many thanks

Steve
Did you try making a copy of a grayscale document? See if that prints in pink. If it were a printhead issue, the black is on one and the magenta is on the other.

Thank you for your reply Moe, but I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean by 'make a copy of a grayscale document'? Please could you explain further?

Thanks

The Cyan printhead would be the likely culprit. Create a picture with cyan, magenta, and yellow rectangles, (anything close will do), then print it and it will be obvious which printhead is defective.

Bless you for that Stephen - I'll give it a try!

Hi Stephen

I've tried your suggestion, and the cyan square prints badly, whilst the other two print perfectly.

I don't know if you know, but this printer has only two printheads: one black and yellow; the other magenta and cyan....

So does the fact that the cyan square prints badly and yet the magenta square prints perfectly, still lead you to think that the magenta/cyan printhead is worn out/faulty?

Thanks
