Hp HP LaserJet 4

hp lj 4+ Squealing

I have posted about this before but I was wrong when I said that the problem was fixed.

I am still getting the noise. I was also wrong about the location. I was listening while standing in front of the printer so the sound sounded like it was coming from the front. Bad mistake on my part I should have known better so I apologize for not getting that right.

The noise is coming from the rear. I listened from all different angles this time and it seemed like it was coming from the rear about in the middle or a little lower. I cannot figure out what is in that area that would be making the noise.

I have a service manual for this printer but I still cannot figure it out. One thing I did try was I popped the back of the printer and there is a gear visible there on the left side. I tried turning that gear manually since I cannot get the printer to do anything with everything open. But when I tried to turn the gear manually it was extremely hard to do.

I do not know if this is normal or an indication that something needs to be replaced or oiled.

Thanks for reading!

You didn't say if you replaced the cartridge. Since it was only happening 1 out of 5 times, I would find it really hard to believe it was a printer problem. Gears don't squeal when they are worn and they would always make noise, not 1 out of 5 prints. Laser scanners do make a squealing sound, but I never heard one do it in that model, also it would do it on every print. That just about covers everything and the blame points to the cartridge which can make intermittent squealing sounds.
