HP LaserJet 4100 With Stars

My HP LaserJet 4100 prints OK using the parallel port. If you add a network card, then turn it on, it dispays the memory, then two lines of stars, which never go away. I tried 3 different network cards (600, 610, and 615). The 600 does work on another 4100 printer.

Swapping the firmware DIMM with a working 4100 printer, the problem stayed with the printer.

Swapping the formatter with a working printer, the problem followed the formatter.

I'm back up (since the other 4100 does not require a network card. But what do you think? Is the formatter board bad? It does print OK using the parallel port.

Thank you.

Never seen that before. Usually, it's a bad JetDirect card and you can fix those by baking them. Gonna bake one tonight. The 600s were good cards, never had to bake one. They changed the solder on the 610 and 615 and they were always failing. There are 2 slots, try plugging it into the other slot. Just remove the metal plate covering it.

The eio bridge plugs into the formatter board. Perhaps the connection is not good. I would remove the eio bridge and then reinsert it or with the power off press down the the black plastic piece to press the bridge into the formatter.
