Waste Ink Pad Reset for Epson Artisan 837 Printer

Just want to share my experience with others who have the same problem! My Epson Artisan 837 Printer is just 12 months old. Last night the error message telling me that the Waste Ink pads are at the end of their life came up & I couln't print another page! I felt so angry with EPSON!!! This printer still works like new, so why should I need to take it to a repair agent or replace it!!! So I started googling! I found several sites with information for resetting the waste ink counter on the Artisan 837. I chose OctoInkjet in the UK. You can search your printer model & they will tell you which products are compatible. You can then download their WICReset program for free & test it. I ran into problems because my printer was connected wirelessly & your printer needs to be connected to your computer directly by USB. This worked for me: You need a USB cable which fits your printer USB port. Switch off your printer. Switch off your Wifi network switch on your router. (My computer is connected to the same network rounter by ethernet cable so I can still use the internet.)Connect your printer to your computer using the USB cable. Switch on your printer again. Ignore the "Found New Hardware" / "Install new hardware" messages. Go to your WICReset program & click Refresh & BINGO if found my printer at last! I went on to check the counter & then clicked the Reset option. A window popped up where I could then go ahead & purchase the key needed, which cost me 5.21 GBP. I could pay by Paypal. I only had to wait about 10 minutes for the email to arrive with my link to download the key. It is a use once only key but I am quite happy to pay that small amount to get my printer working again! I copied & pasted the key into the program & followed the prompts. You have to switch off & restart you printer right away. BINGO - my printed was working normally again!!! :)
To go back to a Wifi connection, I swiched off my printer again & unplugged to USB cable. I switched on the Wifi network switch on my router. I switched on my printer & BINGO againg - it was working just like it should, wirelessly. HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE ELSE! It took me 3 hours to find out all of this!.....inlcluding searching my cupboard for a USB cable which fitted my printer.....I will keep it in my computer desk now ready for the next time I need to reset the Waste Ink counter on my printer. I have ordered a Waste Ink Tank from OctoInkjet as well and will fit it when it arriver.
