Hp HP Photosmart C6180

How to clean scan head on HP Photosmart all-in-one

I have an HP C6180 Photosmart all-in-one inkjet; about 6 years old.

Scans of photos now contain a vertical light line or narrow bar through them. The effect is independent of the location of the
original photo on the scanner glass.

I have tried twice cleaning the scanner glass,
the auto-feed scan glass, and the plastic cover bottom.
I have tried all variations and combinations of scan
settings. I have run the HP scan doctor diagnostic tool
and reached "must have all-in-one serviced".
This result is consistent with advice on the HP user
forum that one can get dust on the scanner head,
mirror or lens and it cannot be cleaned.

It seems to me I may be able to clean it by blowing air,
if I can only get to it.

Can anyone advise how I can disassemble the printer enough
to blow some air at the scan head ? Or has anyone had
a similar experience. The design of many HP all-in-one printers
is similar, so your experience with a different model may
helpful.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
