Nec NEC SuperScript 870

NEC Superscript 870 lines on paper

Hope one of you buffs can help .. I just bought a NEC (laser)Superscript 870.. It is producing a dark thin line 2 inch from edge on every page plus a 1cm smudge horizontal every 6inches or so. The toner cartridge and photo drum are separate.. The toner appears to be full but I did notice scratches on the photo drum just where the line on the paper is. Can the Photo drum be repaired? D.I.Y ?

Over to you guys..
Me again.. is this a good printer anyway.. if not I'll sack it.
what do the professionals say ?.....

When someone heads towards our service counter carrying an NEC superscript, we point him at the dumpster in the back of our parking lot. The only laser printers we'll recommend are built by Canon.
They have an exclusivity agreement to build all of HPs laser printers.

Hi I just came across this thread while goolging for a solution to the black smudges problem. I have same problem same printer accept this is a printer at my place of work so throwing it away is not an option its my job to fix it. So is it possible to fix the problem the origonal poster had with the smudges or am I screwed?
