HP LaserJet 4 Plus Tray 1 Unusual Paper Jams

Hi everyone,

my trusty LaserJet 4 Plus recently developed problems that occur if I feed multiple pages through Tray 1 (MP Tray):
Usually, the first two or three pages get pulled in nicely, then the printer either
1) pulls in the next page too quickly after the previous or
2) fails to pick up the next page (the roller "slips"),
both resulting in a "13 Paper Jam".

This mostly happens while printing at full speed. If more complex documents are printed - resulting in a pause between pages - printing from Tray 1 mostly works fine.

I do not believe this is caused by worn out rollers/separation pads since I have already exchanged Tray 1 pickup roller and Tray 1 separation pad with new ones and the problem still remains.

Printing from Tray 2 (PC Tray) however works just fine.

Has anyone experienced this as well? What could be causing this except the usual worn out rollers/pads? I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!
Sounds like a sticking solenoid. This kit addresses the problem in both trays. http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kits/hp/K17
