Black lines on HP Laserjet 4 Plus printouts

Hi. I have an old Laserjet 4 plus that has been sitting around for a long time. Lines developed on the page print outs and I didn't have time to deal with it. Getting back to it years later now, I hooked it up and the page that printed out had 2 different issues.

(1) On the left margin (about a 2-inch thick margin), there is a repetitive horizontal (faded) line running down the page. Lots of black on the page in between the lines. Probably over 15 lines on the page.

(2) Starting in the middle and running all the way to the right side of the page, there are 3 very dark black lines. They are not on the same spot on every page, but they are equally distant from each other on every page.

If you want, I can scan a sheet and email it to you.

The first thing that you need is a replacement toner cartridge.

Did that diagnosis come from your 5 year old? He's good. - moe
That's funny. I love starting Mondays with a good laugh. And yes, if I had asked him I am sure that a bad toner cartridge would be his answer. He has his own set of tools and frequently "works" on printers in the shop when I take him in on weekends when I have to work.

Well, I once brought a printer in to Sue's five year old son for repair, on the weekend. He said he had five years of experience and could easily repair it, but I would need to pre-pay with twenty pounds of chocolate and gummy worms...for a "kindergarten project." I found that explanation suspicious. Turns out I didn't have any candy, so I went elsewhere. That kid is hard to deal with.
