HP4L - back door broken where paper comes out back

How do you take off the back door? The one with the purple roll wheel to designate if you want the paper to come out the top or out the back? A little piece broke and the little wire-type spring won't keep it working? Thanks.
It's been awhile... take out 2 screws from the top under the cartridge access door, I believe you then carefully pry from the rear bottom of the back cover to pop it up.

it has been quite a few years since I had to work on one. HTH

Thank you for responding. Yes, someone else told me about the 2 screws under the toner. I was flabergasted that it was all it took to get the top off! I have 2 extra (broken) HP4L's and I should have just switched tops but I actually removed the back door from one and put it on this one. Live and learn! But now I am getting paper jams. The first print stops at about 4 inches out onto the top, and the one in the paper tray is jammed up also. I only print 1 page at a time, but it seems like after it heats up, even that will stop 4 inches out of the end and jam. Do you know what that is or should I keep researching? I really appreciate your reply to my first problem. Man, my first two HP4L's (1) 10 years no problem, (2) 6 years no problem, (3) this one I just bought off ebay, 3 days! I may have to find out what the noise is in the other two. Thanks for taking the time to help us out there.

If you are only printing 1 page and the printer picks up 2, then it is because the pickup roller solenoid is sticking. This allows it to continue turning instead of just making one revolution. Unfortunately, fixing it requires quite a bit of disassembly to get to it, although taking the cover off is probably the hardest part. The rest is all screws (a lot of them).

Actually, it is only when I am printing more than one page that this happens. When I am printing only one page it does not pick up 2 papers; it prints okay until after a certain amount of single prints, then it, also, will stop about 4 inches out of the top. What would that be? - michele2007
Moe has told you that the pickup roller solenoid is sticking, and so as I.
Especially when 4L is getting hotter and hotter it gets worse until one day every page you print it jams.
