HP4 Multi-Purpose Tray 13 Paper Jam Error

A repair shop just replaced the power supply in my HP4 and it works perfectly when feeding paper from the cassette tray. However, when I try to feed paper through the multi-purpose tray, the printer generates a "13 Paper Jam" error at the point where it would normally pull the paper into the printer. There is no paper stuck in the printer and the paper feed sensor on the multi-purpose tray seems to move normally (no binding and its spring is in place and working). I contacted the repair shop and their only suggestion was to see if paper is stuck in the pathway which it is not. I did check the pickup roller and separator pad for the multi-purpose tray and both appear in good shape. I also tried another pickup roller in the multi-purpose tray but still got the "13 Paper Jam" error. Sure would appreciate any helpful suggestions.
We can't see what's going on, so you have to tell us. Is the front of the paper lifting up? Is the roller turning? Does the paper move at all? How far?

No, the sequence does not get to the point where the front of the paper lifts up, or the roller turns, or the paper moves. The printing sequence stops right at the point where the front of the paper lifts up. Sorry this was unclear. Thank you.

EDIT: The sentence in my post above that says "The printing sequence stops right at the point where the front of the paper lifts up" should say "The printing sequence stops and the 13 Paper Jam error appears right at the point where the front of the paper SHOULD lift up".

You confused me when you said you replaced the roller. If it's not turning, why replace it? Try this for me. Push down on the front of the roller. It should move just a little bit. That will release the plate and allow the roller to turn. Just want to see if the motor that turns it is working. If the sensor arm is working like you say, the optical sensors never go bad, so that would be the last thing I would try.

I was unable to push the multi-purpose tray paper pickup roller down as it seems to "pivot". The default position is toward the rear of the printer and I can pivot it forward slightly but when released, it returns to the default position. When I try to print a page from the multi-purpose tray, the printer goes through the sequence of "preparing to print" (formatting the image?) then when the motor starts to "ramp up", the 13 Paper Jam error appears. Hope this helps.

It appears this problem may be due to a Paper Feed Assembly that is not working. Am searching now for further information. Thank you.
