Hp HP LaserJet 4

HP LaserJet 4 Printing from lower tray (LC).

My HP Laserjet 4 doesn't seem to want to print from the lower tray or LC. On the configuration page, it does list the lower tray containing legal paper, in which it does. When printing, I can select for it to print on legal, but it always prints the 8.5x11 paper from tray 1. Are there any settings I need to change on the printer to get it to print from tray 2 or is there something else?
If you have paper in tray 1, then it has no idea that it is letter paper. If the printer is set to use tray 1 first, it will automatically pull from that tray.

That worked. I did get it to attempt to print from the bottom tray. There is just one more problem that remains. Whenever I try to print, it starts to pull the page from the tray, and immediately stops and produces a "13 Paper Jam" error. I've got the printer set to Legal paper and the setting on the tray right. Any suggestions?

There is a round green knob which you can adjust. Use the knob to adjust so the lever lines up with the arrow on the knob and then you have the correct pressure in the tray.

I did try adjusting the knob, and made sure that it lines up with the arrow, but the problem still persists unfortunately.

EDIT: I can turn the knob all the way to the left, but the lever is still slightly below the arrow. Is there any way to adjust how far the lever goes up and down?

I found that when adjusting, do it with a full load of paper. Then tap on the paper and adjust to center the arrow. Could also be a problem with the roller being worn or dirty. Try removing it by pinching the clip on the end of it together. Then wash it, if you have a scouring pad rough it up a bit and reinstall and try again.

That got it Moe! Thanks very much.

There's just one more thing, on the green roller or the toner cartridge, one side of it has more waste toner on it. I don't want to ruin it for doing something dumb, so is there a safe way of cleaning it off of it? - Dewster
Bad drum wiper blade. Depending on how much toner is in the cartridge, you can replace it. If it's close to empty, it's not worth the effort. We do carry new OEM cartridges in the cartridge section of the site. Current inventory is 98X OEM. That'll give you an extra 50\% printing. Or if it's mostly full, we can supply you with a replacement wiper blade. They're real easy to install.

Thanks, I may check into that, but it doesn't affect print queality that much.
