Hp HP Photosmart C6180

Ethernet port on HP C6180 dead

Have a HP C6180 Multifunction printer.

I am no longer getting a link (or even link light) on the hard wire ethernet port (another network device plugged into the same jack, with same patch cable works fine)

I have reset the network settings from the menu, done a hard reset of the device and even pulled the internal battery to totally wipe the settings.

The actual reason I opened the printer and found the battery was I thought that the ethernet jack on the printer might have broken loose from the PC board, but that is not the case.

The wireless still works.

Before scrapping the printer I just want to make sure that there is nothing else I might be overlooking.

if i was you, I would

1. try different ethernet cable
2. update firmware

but before doing these 2, i would try another network card (or a network card)

Nope, tried a different ethernet cable and even a different network switch. As far as i can tell there is no firmware update available.

The printer doesn't have a "network card" just a ethernet port.

can you upgrade your printer with a jetdirect card ?

No, no place for a JetDirect.
Thinking about the firmware, not only cant I find an upgrade, but I think it may be a hardware problem as the link light doesn't light and that is probably at a lower level then the printer firmware.

I probably should just junk it

you can always share it with Windows ... but the PC needs to be on 24/7

I am having the same problem. No USB connect. No lights on ethernet port. Software does not recognize the printer. I don't know what to do. HELP! Oh, and never ever been able to go wireless.
