Persistent Ink system failures on HP All-in-one

We have a C6180 --- we turned it off before going on a 3 week vacation. When we returned, we received the gift of constant "Ink System failures". These can be reset via the menu but always return. What's interesting is that we can print after the error is reset, but then the printer generates this error sometime later just "sitting there".

If I had to guess, I'd say ink dried out during our absence. I went so far as to clean the cartridges with isopropyl alcohol but that didn't work either.

Is there a real service manual for these units or is this just another piece of modern disposable electronics?

Finally, in case you're really curious, the error code is 0x19a0035. Note to HP: It's really unconscionable that in this era you still generate numeric error codes. Shame on you.
