Iomega Media Server > USB to Parallel > HP 1100

OK, I knew I was living on the edge. I recently purchased an Iomega Home Media Server, which also serves as a print server for USB printers. I bought a Syba USB to Parallel Cable adapter and connected my trusty HP Laserjet 1100 to the Media Server. I was amazed it worked. The Iomega Media Server recognized the printer, and I set up my Win7 laptop to print. Everything worked fine. Well, after about 20 minutes, someone falls asleep, and the Iomega Media Server shows the printer status as offline. So far, the only way I've found to fix it is to remove the printer from the Media Server, unplug the USB to Parallel adapter, then do a cold reboot on the Media Server and reinstall the printer - not very practical. Have I just pushed my luck too far, or does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!
