Canon Canon Pixma MP600

I have a problem with my Canon Pixma MP600 printer

It went dead and would not power on.
Did the unplug thing, changed plugs and still nothing.
I came here and did some reading so I decided to try holding down buttons to get some green light, or power.

I did in fact get the green light after I held down the ON button, the POWER button, and the STOP RESET button (red).
I then got the green light on the lower left hand side but then got the following error:

U052 Error

The type of print head is incorrect.
Install the correct print head.
Canon Pixma MP600

I removed all the print cartridges and replaced them.
I also turned off the printer then restarted it, still got the same error.

Now from reading on this site (lots of information thanks), I came to the
Conclusion that the printer head is probably burned out.
Is this a fair assumption?
If so is there any way to replace this without buying a whole new printer?
Or is there another fix I am not seeing?

Any ideas?
I replaced the printer head and am still getting the U052 error.

Does anyone have any ideas before I toss this printer with the new print head?

I will never buy a canon again.
