Hp HP DeskJet 1100

can changing the cartridge damage the printer

Hi, I have read through the messages and not found an answer.
I have a very old hp laserjet 1100, an old faithful. I just changed the cartridge, as I’ve done many times, and tried to print. The page had the printed text on it, plus a ghost text all over it, plus a dirty background. I changed back to the old cartridge and the printing looked fine again, apart from being a little faded, with a clean background. What can cause this?
Since the 1100 is a very old printer, there are lots of old toner cartridges out there where the wiper blade has started to go bad. Unless you purchase a cartridge from a reputable dealer with this printer you are asking for trouble.

thanks, I will have to get another cartridge, as I have had it a long time now, although it was from a reputable dealer that I have used many times before.
