HP Laserjet 2840 Serial Number Change

Good Day,

Anyone know how to change back the serial number on an HP laserjet 2840? I can't seem to find the settings through the printer menu or in the manual. Funny thing is, I'm pretty sure I've done this before, and as I recall, it was quite simple. Now I just can't seem to figure it out. I must be burnt out!
These can be done a few ways. Here is one:
Enter the following, replacing {esc} with the escape command -
Hold CTRL and press P, release both and hit Esc. This should give an arrow pointing left.
Sub your serial number in the place of the serial number below.

{esc}\%[email protected]

Save the file.

It attached via usb or network you will need to share the printer and then use the
net use command to redirect the output. Sample if the computer name is computer and
the share name you give the printer is 1522 then you would type at the command prompt:

net use lpt1: \\\\computer\\1522
You would then hit enter and if the command loads ok you would then type
copy serial lpt1 and press the enter key.

Sometimes you just copy the serial file from a dos box,{some will take print} or, if shared, you can print it from the serial command box.

Thanks for the reply Michaeltech, but unfortunatley I have no idea what any of that means. I was hoping that I could do it directly through the menus on the printer itself, or through a "service mode" of some sort.

Ok. Start,Run, type "cmd", a dos box opens. go to your C:\\ and type: edit serial. A new box opens. Change only the serial #, and save. If blank, then follow instructions to make one. Save it, and close it. In the dos box, at C:\\ type: copy serial lpt1, if attatched that way. Or to it's IP ie, USB does'nt seem to work as easily.
