Epson Epson Stylus Color 440

Cleaning Epson Stylus Color 440

Hello. I have an epson color stylus 440 printer that hasn't been used in a really long while. The color ink is still working fine but had to replace the black ink. The printout has a lot of horizontal lines even after running the print head cleaning and nozzle check several times. It is readable but could still use more improvement.

The pad to the right also has a lot of blank ink on it. How do I remove it to clean it? Also how do I clean the receptacle for the black ink the easy way?
Don't touch the pad. It is not necessary. Buy a kit like this http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kits/epson/K70 and clean the print head and the pad.

Thank you, Wes. I will try the kit with the printer and post back about the result. - unknown
Tried a couple of drops on the pad only, left it for 24 hrs and now, the printer is printing perfectly. Thank you!!! This cleaning kit is great and a mighty good investment. :-)
