HP Laserjet 4

This has started to give intermittent service 57 error codes, however it often functions OK.
I believe, from earlier postings that this is a main motor fault, however as it is intermittent, hopefully the gear train just needs cleaning.
Could someone please explain how to dissasemble this printer to inspect the gears (It's not as easy as my old LJ2)and what lubricant to use on the plastic gears (Assuming they are plastic)if any.
Thankyou in anticipation of your help.

It could be a cartridge problem. The gears don't really need lubing. The motor just drives the cartridge drum, the fuser and the exit rollers. It's either going to be a bad cartridge or a bad motor. I thought we added that to our kit line up recently. I just looked and it seems to have been left out. I'll have it corrected.

Hi I have the same problem but my service 57 stays on all the time. Did you solve the problem? How?

We do have a 57 error kit available in our printer repair kits section.
