Hp HP LaserJet 4

HP LaserJet 5 Ghosting with full page shading too.

I have an HPLJ5 with what I thought was a new toner cartridge, yet when I run pages through, the first couple have obvious ghosting that seems to go away after 3 or 4 pages, but the whole page is shaded and all subsequent pages are fully shaded in addition to the intended print on the page. The fuser is heating up, but when I look at the toner cartridge, the drum is coated completely with toner! If I wipe the toner off with a paper towel, it comes back before a full page can completely print. Is this the drum wiper that is faulty, or something else? Does the toner cartridge need to be replaced, or could something else be at fault here?

Thanks in advance.....
It is more than likely a bad drum wiping blade. You need to replace the toner cartridge.
Good luck!

It's a bad drum wiper blade. They go bad in new cartridges that have sat unused for several years. You can just replace the blade. It only involves 6 screws. Takes 2 minutes. If you need a blade, click on my name to email me.
