HP 5Si -- Tray 2 Problem

After several years of trouble-free operation, all of a sudden Tray 2 on my HP 5Si decided it didn't want to "click" into place when I reloaded the paper.

Of course, I started tinkering around and moved a part -- so that now I cannot slide Tray 2 back into place. It only goes in half way, and then the "paper guide"(?) blocks it. For starters, I removed the duplexer, but this didn't help.

I'm not sure what this black plastic part is called, it is located near the pickup rollers between Trays 2 & 3. My guess is it guides the paper from Tray 2 or Tray 3 depending on the paper size selection. You can see it in Figure 6-16 of the HP 5Si Service Manual (p.6-30).

Right now, I need help with two things:

(1) how to get this "guide" piece back into the "up" position, so I can slide Tray 2 back into place;

(2) how to fix Tray 2 so that it "clicks" back into place (as normal) after reloading the paper.
