Slooooooooow HP cp1700

Hi All,

I recently purchased an HP cp1700 to replace a Deskjet 1220c I wore out. I print large volumes of engineering graphs in Draft mode from Adobe Acrobat. These documents range from 150 to 1500 pages, and are line graphs, no large graphics. A pdf with 660 pages is just under 2 MB, for example.

Anyway, the HP printer driver takes NINE HOURS to process this document (660pg pdf). My Deskjet 1220c never had this problem. The job spools from acrobat quickly, and prints quickly, but sits in the print que with size as "128k of 23.8MB" forever. It runs through this at about 50-60K per minute.

HP support says "We rewrote the printer drivers and that's the way it is. Sorry, that's what my screen says. This is not an escalatable issue."

Before I put HP on my "avoid like the plague" list for myself and my clients and go buy another printer, has anyone else run into this? is there a solution?

Can anyone recommend a printer that might offer acceptable performance. Speed is much more important than print quality, and it must print 11x17.

Thanks in advance,

Taylor Wilken
