Hp HP LaserJet IIIP+

laserJet IIIP repair question

My HP Laserjet 3P prints and there are no error messages. Paper pickup is OK. No unusual number of jams. However as the printer is printing it has developed a stutter in the printing action. You can hear a click every few seconds and you can see the rollers stutter. The result is the paper is not feeding smoothly and print on the lines when the click is heard is distorted.

You can hear a thump about every 3 seconds and the rollers stutter and the printout gets distorted.

I used your service before on this printer and parts and instructions I got were perfect. I've gotten years out of this printer and would to get more. Hopefully you can help again.

Hope you can help.
Check the white gear on the lower right in this photo. http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/reference/guides/fuser/lx

Thanks for the quick response. I was able to extract the fuser assembly as you described and...

Yup,

The white gear is missing some teeth causing the stutter in the paper feed and the smeared printing. Is the gear a replaceable item? Other than the gear, the fuser seems to be in good shape.

If the fuser needs to be replaced, what do you suggest?

Also, there is some grease on the gears and it is pretty dryed out. What is the recommended type of grease to use for the gears?

Thanks,

Grease isn't necessary. We should have those gears in stock. Send an email to [email protected] and they'll respond on Monday.
