Hp HP LaserJet 4

I got this problem on my HP LJ 4, when print,
there were 3"~4" width light tone shadow along the whole page length at the backgound of the printout. What is the possible cause and how can it be repaired ?

The Teflon coated fuser assembly roller do not have toner residued on it. I do find the black roller (film wrapped)just under the Teflon Fuser Roller having some overlapping wrapping and
long black sponge roller under toner cartridge
is quite dark look like quite a lot of toner
sitting on it.

I hope you tried a different cartridge? Have you cleaned the paper path...attention to high voltage contacts, remove and blow off the transfer roller (black sponge), brush/vac the anti-static teeth?

Thanks for your reply. How can I clean the transfer roller ? HP Manual do not suggest vacuum cleaning or physical contact on this roller. What is the best way ?

Yes, tried another cartridge, This one do not have
that shadow background.

Contracted Cartridge supplier, they said fault due to dirty of HP LJ 4 and chemical cleaning requied not the fault of cartridge. If LJ is not cleaned up, this new cartridge will have same problem to come by soon or later. Is it true ?

This sounds like you have a refilled cartridge. The cartridge supplier is either stupid or trying to take advantage of you. The cartridge is totally self contained and the printer can not have any effect on it. You tell them that and ask for your money back.

I'm with Moe...according to the supplier's logic, if you clean the printer, the cartridge should work fine. They're full of crap! The cartridge is either good or not...period.
