Hp HP OfficeJet 5610

I have this HP officejet 5610 all-in-one printer, which worked great for me for two years. My baby accidentally took out this transparent string from inside the printer, and it stopped working. When I tried to print, the screen read paper jam. But I'm sure the problem is the missing transparent string. It has one small hole on each side. And I went to store to check other printers, they all have pretty much the same thing in there. Is there anyway that I can get this string and put it back myself? Thanks a lot!

Just think it's a big waste to throw away a good-condition printer just because a small missing part.

This happens all the time. That is the encoder strip. It threads through an optical sensor in the back of the cartridge assembly. Then hooks onto metal hooks on each side. It's almost impossible to put it back in without taking the printer apart. You would have to get lucky getting the strip to go through the optical sensor and then have real small hands (like the baby's) to hook it back up. It's real easy if you take the top off of the printer.
