Hp HP DeskJet 600

hp 600 officejet All in one Printer

I just got this old printer on line with windows XP I'm getting a message that I have a paper jam but have no paper in that unit. Also when I open the lid to clear supposed jam the ink cartridge carrier will not move automatically to middle so that the ink cartridges can be removed. how can I resolve these issues? Or where do I find information to correct these problems?

Officejet 600's were not one of HP's engineering triumphs and probably for that reason I've not answered a question on one them for a very long time. If you get it working be careful with the paper input try. The two pegs that hold it upright are easily broken.

1. Verify that the encoder strip is connected on both ends. It is made of thin plastic approximately 1/4" (6.35 mm) and runs the length of the printer.
2. Verify that the carriage (cartridge carrier) drive belt is installed.
3. Try moving the carriage by hand after opening the cover and unplugging the power. If it moves clean the carriage rod with alcohol and lubricate it with a few drops of Tri Flow (available in small squeeze bottles at cycle shops). NO WD40! Carriage rod lubrication problems were endemic to the Officejet 500 and 600. As I recall a paper jam error was the symptom. The wrong lubricant will make the problem worse.

If the error goes away remove the paper input tray and clean the feed rollers with water. A thin coat of the rubber rejuvenator sold on this website well further improve their grip.
