HP 4L Motor grinding sound

When I try to print, it sounds like it is trying to advance the paper. At first it made a louder than normal grinding or gear stripping sound for about 5 seconds then waited 3 or 4 seconds and tried again for another 5 seconds then timed-out and the red blinking paper jam indicator came on. After several resets and checks for paper jams, it still makes a louder than normal sound for 5 seconds - not as loud as at first, one time, then the paper jam indicator com4es on. I can't see any paper jam. How do I procede? How do I take off the cover so I can see what is going on?
Sounds like it needs a new main motor. The gear on the motor can get a hairline crack in it and it won't mesh with the other gears properly.

Pardon me for butting in. I had the same problem and ordered a replacement motor. I just installed it, but the paper still does not feed. (Paper stays in the tray.) Any suggestions?
