Engine test loop

I've got an HP 4000 which went into an engine test loop where it keeps printing these 40 vertical line pages. The only way I can stop it is to turn off the printer. When I turn the printer back on it starts again. When I turned off the computer on the thought that maybe that could help, the computer seemed overloaded and had trouble coming back on but that's okay for now. Any ideas how I can off this loop and get my printer back?

That's an engine test generated by the controller board. There's an engine test hole on the left side of the printer, below the fan vent. You might try poking something in there a few times. It might reset the test button. If not, you'll have to put in a new controller board. I haven't seen this problem on the 4000 myself, but I seem to remember reading about it before on another message board.

Thanks for the try. I did just what you said and
poked around. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
But now I know what it is. I won't be able to see
a service person before the end of the week and
will let you know how it turns out.
