Epson CX4800 Printing Large Dark Bands

my Epson CX4800 recently started printing a large dark band over what normally should be printing. You can see a faint image of the correct print under this large dark band. I tried doing the head cleaning and other utilities and it is still doing the same thing. I also cleaned up the head cleaning pad on the right side of the printer. This had a lot of ink build up on it but not enough in my opinion to create this large dark band. ....but now after I cleaned it up, one ink cartridge is showing no ink and it won't let me do any more test prints. Should I spend the money on a new cartridge and try it out or do you think that there is something else majorly wrong with the printer? Is there something else I can try to fix this? Thanks!

The printhead has probably blown. It would more than likely be cheaper to buy a new printer than have this one repaired, unless it is still under warranty of course.

Paul, thanks - I was afraid of that... that is probably why my wife took me to the store last night to buy a new printer..! The new one we bought is the Epson Workforce 600, nice printer with wireless. I would like to still try and fix this CX4800 if possible... any body else have a suggestion to try? thanks!
