Hp HP LaserJet 6P

I have a HP LaserJet 6p which has developed a problem. On every page I print with this machine I get a light gray background. Does this mean I need to replace the toner?
Picture of page it printed:
You consider that light gray? That looks pretty dark to me. Anyway yes it looks like a toner issue. http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/specials/toner/hp/S208

probably toner, but take yours out, and open the drum door cover. if you see the drum is dark (covered with a light toner film that will brush off with your finger), then your toner is bad. if the drum is clean/blue, you may have a dc control board issue.

I don't know where the drum door cover is. I saw this green roller thing which did have a light film of toner on it I don't know if thats what your talking about? I also have another question: What kind of ram does this printer take? It currently has 2mb of ram which isn't enough for printing out 1 page pdf files.

The green roller thingy is the drum. Like Chris said, if it's covered with toner, you need to replace the toner cartridge. As for memory, if you're just printing text you can go into the printer properties menu and reduce the dpi from 600 to 300 dpi. That will effectively give you 8mb of memory. Other option would be to add memory to it, but that costs money.

I ordered new toner and now I want to know about the ram this printer takes. I have alot of old sdram which is what i'm guessing this printer takes. Can anyone verify this?

I tried these sticks of ram and they fit but the lights on the printer were flashing. What could be the problem?

Check www.memory.com to determine what type of memory your 6P needs.

If you print out a self test page, you should get information about the quantity of installed RAM.

I would start by printing a configuration page.
