Lexmark Lexmark Optra RN+

Laser "smudges"

Lexmark Optra Rn+ is producing horrible output. It casts a gray across the entire paper and leaves large, dark smudges on the long edges. I tried to clean all the rollers and paper path I could which seemed to help for a few prints but now it's back to lousy. Any ideas out there?
Definitely sounds like you have problems with the toner cartridge. They're pretty pricey. Do you have an empty one you could try?

Thanks for the response. Yeah, the cartridges cost $213+shipping which is more than I was willing to shell out just to see if it might help. I'm having a hard time figuring out all the details of the paper path but it does seem like the cartidge became the culprit. Do they normally go bad quickly? It was working pretty good then within a few prints went south.

There's a rubber wiper blade that cleans the drum. It gets oxidized and causes the problems.
Really difficult to change it. Have to cut into the cartridge and know what you're doing. Should have gone with HP. I've worked on a few of these with low copy counts and $300+ repair bills. Ouch!
