Hp HP LaserJet 5SI

(Optra N) and (HP 5Si)

Hello gurus,

Can someone please tell me if the Formatter Board from a HP 5Si can be put into a Optra-N printer? I just picked up a OptraN printer to replace an HP 5Si that has a bad registration assembly (pages shifting). So I plan to trash the HP 5si and use the part in the Optra N. I notice everything is familar between the two printer. The paper tray, toner cartridges etc were all interchangeable. I am afraid to try the formatter board in the Optra, afraid it will destroy the machine. I wanted to use the formatter board from the 5si because it has the Network card, whereas the one in the OptraN does not. Thanks.
While I've never tried it, formatter boards are usually not compatible between different manufacturers models. The connectors will be all different. The "N" in Optra N means it's a network ready model. All of the other parts should be interchangeable.

Actually it may work as long as you also change the top cover and use the menu from the old 5si. The engine on both printers is the same so the covers and formatter are different. It is possible the engine control board may be different between the two models but I doubt it.
