Epson Epson Stylus Color 3000

Epson Stylus Color 3000

I disassembled by 3000 and am trying to figure out how to use the Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution with this type of printer. Did i buy the wrong product? HELP!
Ah, i figured it out. I took apart the print head assembly and located the pads like the instructions said. I just had to reattach the controls so i could turn the printer back on to move the print head assembly.

So, did the Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution work? I have a 3000 that I haven't used for a few years. Changed the inks out with new cartridges and just get the cyan jet working. I suspect the heads are solidly clogged.
Any insights appreciated.

Yes, the head cleaning solution i bought worked. It took about 4 times over 3 days to get things running but it works now. I also got it hooked back up to my network and i bought a Rip that prints postscript with MAC OS10.4.11

One thing i did was recharge the inks a few times. Basically, when the printer is on, take out all the ink cartridges, then turn off the printer. Then, put the cartridges back in and then turn the printer back on. You can actually see the flow of ink through the little tubes. Also notice your ink pads will get more defined colors in them... you'll be able to see yellow, cyan and magenta on the ink pad instead of just black.

If you're interested in the RIP you can download a trial version at iproof systems. It's called PowerRIPx.

definitely try the solution. It's only $10 and is a cheap fix if it works. I actually fixed 2 clogged EPSON 3000's with it without any problem.

Hey guys, I am about to try my luck with an Epson 3000 I bought for 50 euros, yeay! All the mechanics on it work but no ink comes out. I am hopefull it is a severe clog that I can clean.

@berndog you said you took the head assembly apart. Afterwards, did you have to go through a head realignment procedure? If so, what did that involve?

UPDATE: found the info!

I was told by an epson tech, that my printer needed a pump and a pump cap. It will not deliver ink from the new epson manufactured black cart. The head is fine, I was told. Is there any way I can change out the pump unit on my epson 3000. I will need instructions on how to get at the pump and cap.

Link above has quite extensive info including links to the service manual.

OK. Received the Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution. Instructions questions:

Instruction #2 says "Initiate a cleaning cycle, and when the cartridge assembly moves off the service station, pull the AC plug."

I take it the "cartridge assembly" is what the service manual refers to as the CR Unit that tracks across the CR guide shaft and that the "service station" is where this cartridge assembly parks when it is in front of the panel unit which houses the ink cartridges below.

After the "cartridge assembly moves off the service station" do I need to remove the upper housing of the panel unit to gain access to the sponge pads that are on the left side of the service station?

My confusion is that the service manual does not use the terms "cartridge assembly" or "service station" to describe the 3000 parts.

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

"cartridge assembly" = Carriage (the thing that holds the ink cartridges)

"service station" = The Cap Assembly. It is under where the print head parks. It is what cleans the print head.

Some people can clean the print just as is and others end up removing the housing (cover) to clean the print head.

I bought the cleaning solution kit and it almost worked...Black is the head i have that doesn't work. I took head out, cleaned with solution, and got SOME black lines to print on the test page, but the printer isn't drawing black from the cartridge.. The instructions in #8 say "Put the syringe on the cone shaped fitting in the assembly"... What is that? Where the in cartrige goes there are 2 cone shaped 'guides" and the needle that corresponds to the ink tube... Any help here would be appreciated... If i put the solution on the black sponge pad, does it get into the pump to clean it?

I got it working !!! Prints excellent, but it is about 1" off the paper, like it thinks there is a margin on the right (Print head docking) side of the paper... - mdgreven
My epson 3000 turned out to have worn ends on the flat cables from the motherboard to the heads. No metal on the voltage lines on the motherboard side. It did all the printing but the heads were not responsive. Looking for cables now.

Hi Folks. My Epson 3000 unused for a few years now. I bought it new in 97. The current ink cartridges use by dates 2002, and 2003. A recent nozzle test shows the coloured inks still working but no black pattern. After quite a few cleaning cycles still no black pattern.I have taken the cover off and cleaned the pads in the parking station and am pondering further action, but first more tests. My questions as follows:
1 Can I print a nozzle test pattern from the printers control panel when the printer isnt connected to a computer?
2 The printer was origonally used with a powermac 7300/200 (OS9.4 from memory) via an ethernet connection. I am currently using an imac with Snow Leopard, is there a compatable printer driver for this OS?

Link is above or just Google drivers for Epson 3000 and it will come up

The test page CAN be printed as long as it has paper and is plugged into a power source.

Latest driver will allow newest Mac OS to support the printer

Try some Windex with AMMONIA on the foam pads, let head "park" itself and stay over night, worked for me many times. The black pad is the one on the left with the 3 colors being the other pad on the right. - unknown
Thanks Robert.
After a mighty tussle to remove the top cover (but now at least I know how)
after several days of soaking then cleaning the foam pads with a dilute solution of isopropyl achohol all is well,I now must find a supplier of inks at reasonable cost, any suggestions?

I read on the Epson website that there is no Epson printer driver available for intel based Macs, and it doesnt look like there will be in future. Is this correct, or is there a work around for this, or is there a third party driver, or is my info simply out of date?

I'm having trouble finding papers that actually list this printer as a compatible printer. Can anyone give me large paper sources for photo quality papers? (8.5 x 11 and over) Thanx

A question 4 berndog.
In your post 2/16/09 you refer to instructions. 'took apart the print head assembly and located the pads etc. Its Xmas and time for me to again attempt tp bring this thing back to life.
Can you email these instructions? My printer doesnt print from the black nozzle. Am currently 'cleaning' it, have taken the cover off and have soaked the foam pads in the parking bay with a cleaning fluid, if this isnt effective will remove and reinsert cartridges see anon 3/1/09, if still not effective will contemplate navel, then perhaps dissassemble print head assembly.
best wishes to all for the silly season

I want to thank all the technical experts in these threads for providing excellent resources and guidance in troubleshooting this printer.

An architect who couldn't get the black working gave me one of these as he knew I was a photographer who couldn't afford to buy a new photo printer. He needed a working unit and his desk space back. (This thing has a huge footprint!)

I read the forums for a day and took a course of action after downloading the service manual (that was absolutely necessary) and was on my way. I had to clean and purge the heads about 20 times before it started performing correctly - as well as a general vacuum and clean up. I did buy the solution head kit and one has to have a bit of technical expertise - (this is not for those that don't have any 'fix it' abilities)- but it's not rocket science.

Read the thread and follow the advised's all there.

Thanks again to those of you who knew what to do and shared it.

Does anyone have advice on photo type papers that work well? I'm now trying to figure out the color profiling etc... and also my experience tells me to use Epson inks....not 'compatible' inks that are much cheaper - but generally with other printers cause issues due to formulation differences - does any one have data on this?

Many thanks

I tried printing a document from In Design and many other apps. I'm getting a message that says "fatal: Communication error with the printer".
The document is 17"x24" and I'm not always seeing the Utility window that indicates what's wrong.
