Apple Apple LaserWriter 360

laser cartridge smearing

I've perused the forums, but still could not find a real fix to my problem. I just switched out my toner cartridge for my Apple Laserwriter 360. The new toner was in an original sealed Apple toner box. I bought it at a garage sale. I am assuming that the box has been knocked around quite a bit. When I print, the paper is smeared, major. I tried several times, flipping open the drum door and wiping the drum clean, but it keeps smearing. I've rocked it and cussed at it but to no avail. From the other side, I can see that the toner ink powder if all over. Is there anyway to save this cartridge?
The drum wiper blade will deteriorate from age even though it wasn't used. If I remember correctly, there were 2 types of 360 cartridges. One was a gray, the other a black. One had a replaceable wiper blade, the other didn't. Don't remember which was which, been too long.
