Hp HP CopyJet Color

HP 1220Cse DeskJet

Problem #1
We were continually getting error messages or warnings of low levels of black ink. The cartridge was showing approx. 1/4 still remained. We replaced w/new cartridge and color cartridge said it was low a couple of times thereafter but quit and the black went back to saying it was low again (having just put in a new cartridge).
Problem #2
Having replaced black cartridge w/identical part no. but black ink was not drying. Totally wet when coming out.
2 culprits: extra humidity & change of paper. Is this (wet ink) something that can be taken care of?
Problem #3
But I did notice when we changed ink cartridge a puddle or pile of ink had built up in bottom of printer, like it was dripping similar to bat droppings in cave in one hump or mound.
Problem #4
I have tried to retrieve info from HP. Their manual is greatly lacking and HP loves to hide from the public by not being accessible.
Any good ways of quickly getting access to HP for my particular printer?

Follow the steps to Replace any low or empty ink cartridges

Replace any low or empty ink cartridges, and then try to print again.

1 Turn on the printer.

2 Make sure to load the printer with plain, white paper.

3 Gently grasp the handles on either side of the printer, then raise the ink cartridge access door until it locks into place.

4 Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you proceed.

5 To release the ink cartridge, lift the lid on the ink cartridge slot, then gently push the lid back until it stops.

6 Pull up on the ink cartridge to remove it from the slot.

Lift the lid

Gently push the lid back

Pull up on the ink cartridge

7 Remove one of the new ink cartridges from its package. Be careful to only touch the black plastic on the ink cartridge.

8 Remove the plastic tape from the ink cartridge.

9 Hold the ink cartridge by its sides with the nozzles toward the printer, then slide the ink cartridge forward into the slot.

10 Close the lid on the ink cartridge slot to secure the ink cartridge into place.

Insert the ink cartridge

Close the lid

The color ink cartridge is on the left, and the black ink cartridge is on the right

11 Repeat the previous steps to install the other ink cartridge, if needed.

12 Close the ink cartridge access door.

13 After you install new ink cartridges, the printer automatically prints an alignment page.

14 Wait for the alignment page to fully eject from the printer.

15 Lift the scanner lid.

16 Place the alignment page with the print side down on the scanner glass. Position it according to the engraved guides around the glass.

17 Close the scanner lid, then touch OK. The printer aligns the ink cartridges.
