Hp HP Color LaserJet 2840

HP Color LaserJet 2840 Turns on but nothing else

I own a HP Color LaserJet 2840.

Two other people own this printer then myself. The issue was addressed to me to see if I could fix it myself.

What it does is as follows:

On button is pressed, it turns on and makes all the racket it usually does but the menu display is stuck saying Hewlett-Packard. It doesn't say it's warming the bulb or it's ready to scan/fax/print. Then, the buttons don't work. Such as nothing changes in the display screen when menu or scan is pressed. The title is still there.

No error codes show up on my computer screen other then an error that it won't print in the printing jobs display.

It says there's an error in the connection between the printer and computer but I can't figure out where.

I've unplugged and replugged in all connections, restarted computer, tried a command prompt print out, tried to print a test sheet, and tried reinstalling the printer all together.

In the last mentioned, I had to go back to a restore point due to finding out that the printer supports Mac or Vista only. I own an XP. I don't know how the technician got the printer on the computer.

I wanted to try anything possible before calling him.
