LaserJet 4Si transfer roller / vertical streaks...

Hello all,

I'm looking for help with my old HP LaserJet 4Si. It has recently started printing pages with a dark, vertical streak down the center of the page after working fine for about a year. It's odd because it's on the front and back side of the page.

After reading several excellent posts on this website, I've tried to diagnose the problem myself. I turned off the printer in the middle of a test page print and I can see the streak appears before the paper gets into the Fuser.

So the Fuser is probably working ok, leading me to believe the problem is with the Toner Cartridge. However, I'm not getting a Toner Low message from the control panel.

I've uploaded pictures of the printer here:

The pattern on the drum matches the mark I see on printed pages. There's also a similar mark on the Transfer Roller.

Can I simply replace the cartridge to fix this problem? Do I need to clean the Transfer Roller? I've been careful not to touch anything.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

The wiper blade of the toner cartridge has gone bad and the complete toner cartridge will need to be replaced. That is all you need to do.

Excellent. Thanks much. I didn't realize that there was a wiper blade inside the cartridge that could wear out before the toner was gone.
