HP Deskjet 670C - Cartridge Ink Levels

I am not having any mechanical problems with my printer but I would like to know if there is a way to tell the ink levels in the cartridges other than just waiting for the printer to quit printing? I don't do much printing with colored ink but those cartridges seem to run out of ink long before the ones with black ink. I've tried cleaning them but without much success.

Also, the print quality of colored photos isn't very good. I've tried making adjustments according to the manual and I use the correct paper. Any hints for improvement will be appreciated.

I don't believe HP designed ink level monitoring into Deskjet 670C.

Assuming the the color cartridge ink nozzles are not plugging up from lack of use, the black cartridge comes with significantly more ink than the color cartridge, 40 ml of ink vs. 22.8 ml.

The quality of photos may be due to the limitations of the printer, i.e. the printer is not capable of printing the resolution expected on photos.

Thanks for your prompt reply, Bert.

I thought that might be the case for both questions but then I also thought I might be overlooking something. The printer is old but still does a good job with simple printing. Maybe Santa Claus will bring me one of those newfangled multiple purpose kind and then I'll have to decide what to do with this old one. :-)

Thanks again. This is a good service.
