Hp HP Color LaserJet 2840

HP CLJ 2840 AIO with Red background 1 out of 100

I have a client that has a Color Laserjet 2840 All-in-one that will print once in about a hundred pages a page with all but 1/4" on the right, left and top margins, and the bottom 1/2 inch with a red backgroung. The black text is readable. It appears almost as if it were printed on red paper except that the margins are white.

I am suspecting that there is an actuator that has a worn stop pad that is causing the pad to stick in the open position too long, keeping the red cartridge engaged when it shouldn't.

Any ideas? If it is an actuator, any idea which and where in the printer it would be?

Thanks for the help.

I found this to be an issue with PDF's. Resolved by updating firmware and selecting the option in the printer driver to correct background color.
