Epson Stylus Color 740

My wonderful old Epson is refusing to print. The lights come on and sometimes even blink when I ask it to print but it won't print and then I get the message that there has been an error in printing. I have checked all my connections, ports, disconnected at power source and from the computer. The printer when disconnected from the computer prints a perfect nozzle test. Do I need a new printer cable, do I need one of the solvent repair kits that this site sells, do I need to give up on my old buddy? Thank you for any suggestions anyone might have.
If it prints a test page then I would start with the basics. Like updating the drivers and trying a new printer cable. Drivers can get corrupted ofer time and cable connections can corode or tarnish. It may be as simple as a loose printer cable connection.
