Canon Canon Pixma MP750

Canon Pima MP750

I have a message on my printer saying 'waste ink near full'. I can't find any reference to this in the handbook or on the Canon website. Can anyone throw any light on it please? Can I empty the tank myself or does it have to be done professionally?

When the printer performs head management (by user command or automaticlly at startup), a small abount of ink is used. This used ink is collected in a waste tank (ink absorber). It's not considered a consumer-level fix, though I'm guessing handyfolk could probably figure out how to change it. (I just bought the service manual a few days ago, and I haven't seen anything about actually changing the tank yet.) The service manual has instructions on how to reset the counter after the change.
