smudge in printing

HP laserjet 1200 series black printer. evrything is fine but the printout comes out all smudge from top to bottom. its like a black line runs through the middle of the page about 3 inches wide, and also at evey 5 lines of the printout page. maybe the printter requires a servicing. what say?
its the printer cartridge may be. make a search thr. the forum for "half-test". then make the half-test and it will show for sure if the problem is with the cartridge

Earlier, I had asked for help with smudges when I printed labels on my Samsung CLP-510. Other printing was fine. I thought it was the labels, but replacements did the same thing. STUPID ME!
I didn't know that there was a printer setting for labels. When someone suggested changing the setting, I found it... and the labels print smudge-free! The old maxim applies: if at first you don't succeed, you're probably doing it wrong! joncris
