Hp HP Color LaserJet 2840

hp laserjet 2840 rebooting

The printer turns on, the ready light goes on (blinking) as does the exclamation point under it. It then shows HP on the screen and the running cursor. It then stops, shows Hewlett - Packard and does nothing. None of the menu buttons respond, will sit still and reboot on its own. I unplugged all wires from the computer and is doing the same thing.

Any idea?

Does the scanner light come on and the scanner move a little to the left. If not you probably have an issue with the scanner assembly or the formatter.

I have the same problem. Was uninstalling software to reinstall to try to fix scanner problems when exclamation mark begins to flash on display screen. No screen display keys work. Scanner light does not come on. When turning off and then back on, it makes all the same noises as if it's going to be ready to print but isn't. Displays Hewlett Packard and blinking cursor. When I tried to reinstall software, I get to the point of connecting USB plug. In the past when I did this, it made a noise and recognized the connection. Now, it does nothing and I cannot proceed with software installation. Any ideas?

Andreas, my computer is doing the same thing. I called HP this morning. They told me to turn the printer off, disconnect all cables to the printer except the power chord. On the keypad press the * (asterisk) and enter buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down while you turn the printer power on. Continue to hold down the * and enter buttons during the cycling/warm up. The exclamation and green light on my printer continued to blink and the words Hewlett Packard continued to show in the display. The HP service tech said this is a hardware issue and that the formatter (the printer's brain) needed replacing.

Hope this helps you determine what's wrong with your printer.

I have a brand new 2840 that is doing this. It gets the the screen with the moving bar at the bottom and just sits there with the 2 lights flashing.

If it is brand new it is under warranty. Call hp customer care or return it to where you got it. Messing with it under warranty could void it.
