Hp HP LaserJet 1200

HP1200 laserjet not seen - PC with xp -sp2

I have an HP1200 which works fine on my office machine on WIN98 on USB thru a USB2.0 hub.
I brought it home to use on my XP machine, and it is detected by XP, tells me the printer is ready to use.
Test page will not print from the comp, but will print from the printer front panel.
I reinstalled the drivers for both PS and PCL, and it will not connect on USB or parallel cables.
What have I missed?
My old Laserjet series 2 works ok on this XP machine.

Make sure that if the printer is usb 2.0 capable, that you have a usb 2.0 cable.

Also, there should be no reason why you can't connect with a parallel cable, as long as you make sure to restart after it's plugged in, and you install it to LPT1. They don't really care for auto-installing in those circumstances.

I tried it both on USB 2 and parallel on LPT1, in both PS and PCL6 modes and no go.
Brought it back to my office today and it worked fine.

Really weird

Sounds to me like a driver issue. Tell you what go to a dos prompt and have the printer connected via parallel to lpt1. Now at the dos prompt type cd\\windwos and hit enter. Now type dir >> lpt1 and hit the enter key. Does the printer print a directory of windows. If it does, then your issue is driver plain and simple. If it does not connect to the end of the ljII printer cable and try again and give us the results.
