Epson Epson Stylus CX5400

Epson stylus cx5400 printer

When I installed the replacement cartridge for the yellow I didn't check the product box to assure it was for this printer and it was not. there was an error message "yellow cartridge error". The chip on the ink cartridge came off and was laying in the yellow cartridge slot. It was removed and a new compatible yellow cartridge was then inserted and the same error message reappeared. Will the printer have to be repaired, replaced or what needs to be done to get it working again?? Will the repair costs be more than the price of a new printer if repairable?
