Hp HP OfficeJet 5610

hp 5610 black bar

Scans and copies have a black bar on the right hand side of the paper. This does not appear on the prints from the computer. I believe there is a problem with the scan head. Is there a way to test it? Do anyone know where to get parts in the New Zealand region?
Are you using the ADF? If so, check the glass for debris or in most cases, whiteout, on the glass and simply clean it off. You can also place your document on the glass and make a copy and see if it copies clear. If so, then you can be sure that there is something on the glass portion that the ADF uses.

How does one access the glass portion the ADF uses?

Okay, I read the manual. To access the thin sheet of glass used by the ADF, you swing the blue casing above where the ADF rollers are, up and away (left); then you do something similar to the gray assembly holding the rollers. The glass is underneath. And cleaning it can fix vertical black lines, as promised! Thank you.

My approximately 4 year old HP 5610 printer/scanner/fax has a black bar about 1/3 the width of the page on all my faxes/scans whether I use glass or ADF (printing from computer works fine). I've opened the ADF and cleaned the glass strip as per above to no avail. Do the scan heads have a shelf life?? If so presumably I shouldn't put a cent into a 4 year old HP I paid about $60 for?
