Hp HP LaserJet 5SI

HP Laserjet 5SIMX 56.2 Error

I have an HP Laserjet 5SI MX PS with duplexor and a page count of 47,000.

I am getting intermittent 56.2 errors followed by a paper jam.

Paper feed is from Tray 2 and output is to the top of the printer.

I have tried turning Power Save Off in the Configuration Menu to no effect.

The problem seems to occur in long documents and in similar places each time - so I wonder whether it might be corruption in the documents or whether it is a printer fault.

Any suggestions?
Chris,
Does this error happen with the duplex unit removed?
Please test & report back here your results.
Good luck!

Thanks for your reply:

The error only occurs with the duplex unit in place and printing in duplex mode - the same documents printed with the duplex unit in place but in non-duplex mode give no errors.

On getting the 56.2 error I press Select and then get a paper jam message 13 - opening the printer always reveals a couple of pages in the area of the duplex unit.

I have tried fitting a different duplex unit but the problem is unchanged - so this probably means that the duplex unit itself is okay.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The duplex unit feeds paper under Tray 3. Somtimes a page or two will fall down there and obstruct movement. Pull Tray 3 out and check for paper below it. That could be causing your problems.

Dear Moe,

Many thanks for your posting.

I took both tray 2 and tray 3 out to have a look and could see nothing wrong there - it was certainly worth a try though as I hadn't thought of that before.

I still get 56.2 followed by 13.14 and a couple of pages stuck - one in the fuser and one in the duplexor.

If the fuser is not a OEM but remanufactered you may want to obtain an OEM fuser since there are known issues with remanufactured fusers and duplex with the canon engine.

Many thanks for your posting.

The fuser is the original HP fuser - with only 42,000 pages on the printer to date I wouldn't have thought it should be giving problems yet.

I'm glad to receive suggestions though.
